Importance of Balance and Coordination
As a mum; and once upon a time… a teacher, I see first hand how children develop and the importance of our emotions. Emotional regulation is not always easy, even for adults. Processing our emotions takes time, and we don’t always have the skills to do this in an efficient and effective way.
I have been reading many books lately about how we encourage our children to deal with their emotions and with three of my own, at varied stages of childhood; I feel that simple tips and strategies can be very helpful. The cerebellum in our brain is responsible for high functioning such as organization, planning and time management to name a few. It also helps us with our emotional regulation. This amazing part of the brain is also responsible for coordination, timing and is also connected to our vestibular system - in simple terms our balance.
Studies now show that not only is exercise helpful in boosting our mood, helps us sleep better and can be social and fun. It can help us strengthen that part of our brain (cerebellum) that helps us regulate our emotions.
So why not try throwing in some balance and coordination tasks next time you work out… doesn’t have to be a Barré class but barré certainly covers those bases and you are always welcome at Daley Barre
Have a balanced and happy day!
